Obituary
A funeral Mass for Russell will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish ~ Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard. Interment will be Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Bancroft.
Russell Larry Richter was born April 3, 1941, the son of Fred and Mary Celeste (Trenary) Richter at the family farm north of Ledyard, Iowa. He grew up in Ledyard graduating from Ledyard High School in 1959. After high school, he started farming on rental ground, until purchasing the Richter Century Farm. He was 100% dedicated to his Holstein cows, earning annual awards in milk quality. Russ was dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the land, environment, and buildings. The latter was particularly clear in the maintenance and restoration of two large dairy barns, one of which was built by his grandfather.
Russ enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to country music concerts, reading, and going to sporting events. Russ had a great sense of humor, quick with a smile or a comment that was well timed. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews, great-niece, and great-nephews. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Russell died Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minnesota. He was 80.
He is survived by his brother, Ronald and his wife Alice Richter of College Station, Texas; sisters, Darlene and her husband Joe Joyce of Emmetsburg and Deanna Richter of Ledyard; nieces and nephews, Laura Richter, Charles "Ricky" Richter, Billie Jo Joyce, and Patrick (Jessica) Joyce; great-nieces and nephews, Carson Hoffman, Kylie Hoffman, and Tate Joyce and special friend Judy Johnson. . Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Celeste Richter.
