Dennis Lee Heerdt was born January 14, 1945, in Algona, the son of Conrad W. and Lillian (Ackerman) Heerdt. He grew up in the rural Burt area graduating from Burt Community High School in 1963. He then attended the School of Data Processing in Rock Island, IL. Denny served in the National Guard from 1965 until 1985 retiring with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Denny worked for over 40 years at the Lone Rock Bank (now Bank Plus) as Branch Manager and Vice President retiring on June 30th, 2006. He was a very social person and was a wonderful source of genealogical history especially in the Lone Rock and Burt Area. He enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales and spending time at North Long Lake near Brainerd, MN.
Denny was a member of the Burt Methodist Church and after its closing the Burt Presbyterian Church. He served as City Clerk for Lone Rock and also as Burt Township Clerk. Denny was a member of the Lone Rock Historical Society, the Burt Lions Club, and the Kerr-Hammerstrom American Legion in Lone Rock.
Denny died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Algona Manor Care Center at the age of 76.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, James Heerdt of Colorado, Janelle Moe of Algona, Charis King of Colorado, Tim Heerdt of Burt, and Ron Heerdt of Kansas; a sister-in-law, Carol Heerdt of Colorado; great nieces and nephew; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edwin "Gene" Heerdt.
