Patrick Charles Besaw, son of Earl M. Besaw and Helen Loeschen was born January 21, 1952. He grew up and attended school in Humboldt, Iowa. Pat served his country in the Vietnam War. After active duty, he continued his service in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was very proud to be a Veteran.
On September 22, 1973 he was united in marriage to Cindy (Smith) Besaw. They raised two daughters and lived in Humboldt and Dakota City area. Pat loved Cindy very much and they were married for forty years. They enjoyed weekly motorcycle rides, line dancing and time with their girls. He was a man of few words, but loved his family very much and was proud of his grandchildren. For many years after his military service Pat drove semi. Pat also worked for Martin Marietta as a Master Blaster in the Fort Dodge mine. One of the side jobs he loved was cutting trees and selling firewood. For many years he was very active in ABATE of Iowa, where he taught motorcycle rider education.
Pat spent time early on racing motocross, go-carts and loved riding motorcycle. He had a group of family and friends that would take off and enjoy the open road and attend motorcycle rallies. In July, 2019, at the age of 67 he earned the Iron Butt "Saddle Sore" 1000 certificate, completing 1,000 miles in twenty four hours. Over the last couple of years, he also enjoyed riding motorcycle with his brother Ross.
On February 13, 2016 he was united in marriage to Cynthia (Bauer) and the two lived in Bayard, Iowa. Pat was blessed to have found another partner in life. Together they enjoyed going to movies, camping and going for golf cart rides with their dogs. They also had a memorable trip to Myrtle Beach.
Over the last five years, he had two battles with cancer. On March 27, 2021, he died peacefully at home in his sleep.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia Besaw of Bayard, IA, daughters, Angelique (Matthew) Berry, of Livermore, IA, Jessica Craighton, of Clarksville, TN, step-sons Carey Huffman, Jerry Spaulding and Shane Spaulding; grandchildren, Elizabeth Skow, Mitchell (Kirstin) Skow, Lucas Collins, Hannah (Tyler) Collins-Rodriguez, Hunter Berry, and Evan Craighton; mother, Helen Newbrough, siblings, Joyce (Erman) Hansen, Kathy (Andy) Eck, Rick (Crystal) Newbrough, Dave (Aimee) Newbrough, Bob (Amy) Newbrough, Staci (Todd) Eckles, Carmen (Gene) Cook, Ross Besaw, Jim Morey and John Morey, and many more family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Earl M. Besaw, foster parents Harvey & Viola Morey, step father Don Newbrough, his first wife, Cindy (Smith) Besaw, brother, Michial Besaw, sister, Jackie Opperman and, son-in-law, Jeremy Craighton, niece, Erin Besaw, and nephews, Terry and Patrick M. Besaw.
