A funeral Mass for Jerome (Jake) J. Becker, 87, of Algona will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona and is now also open to the Public. Visitation is from 9 AM to 10:15 Saturday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona and it is also open to the public. Social distancing practices will be followed and masks are required at both the visitation and the Funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Algona with military honors conducted. Visitation for the family will be held Saturday from 9:30 to 10:15 at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona. Jerome (Jerry or Jake) John Becker was born October 19, 1933 in Algona, son of George and Ida Mae (Kreucher) Becker. He was the 20th of the family's 22 children. He grew up in St. Joseph, Iowa and attended St. Joseph Academy. Jake proudly served his country in the United States Marines from October of 1953 until October of 1956, stationed in Japan.
Jake was married to Linda Marie Clark on June 4, 1960 in Winner, SD. Following their marriage, they lived in St. Joe for seven years before moving to Algona. He worked for Reding Gravel and Excavating from 1964 until 1982. He then owned and operated Jake's Welding until selling the business in 1993 and semi-retiring. Jake then worked at Algona Vault Service part-time.
Jake loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren, and he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He shared a shop in the Irvington General Store building with his friend, Ed Kisch, where he spent many hours tinkering and creating things. Jake was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.
Jake became a resident of Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Algona in May of 2017. He died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at MercyOne North Iowa, in Mason City at the age of 87.
He is survived by his three children, Tim Becker and his wife Melanie Boulay-Becker of Edina MN, Kathryn Scanlon and her husband Mike of Corvallis OR, and Blane Becker and his wife Betsy of Algona; six grandchildren, Alec and Amelie Becker, Alexandra Scanlon, JJ Scanlon Niskanen and his wife Emma, and Sturling and Skylar Becker; and two great-grandsons, Rhys Barton and Nicolas Barton. He is also survived by a brother, Al Becker and his wife Molly of Algona; two sisters-in-law, Sara Cogar of Rochester MN, and Sandy Becker of Humboldt; a brother-in-law, Matthew Clark of Algona; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on January 31, 2017; and twenty siblings, Anton, Mathew, Tom, Lawrence, Fr. Luke, James, Sr. Clare, Raymond, Fr. Nick, Emma, Rita, Martha, George, Margaret (Peggy), Germaine, Irma, Mary, Edith, Theresa, and Donald.
