After graduation she worked various jobs including working in a local hatchery and providing in-home assistance cooking, cleaning, and childcare to families who needed help. She was also a waitress at a local café. It was at that café where Violet Ruth met Verlin Ray Lemaster in the mid-1950's. The story surrounding their first encounter differs depending on which one of them you asked. Regardless they were married on April 20, 1956 at the Ramsey Reformed Church. That marriage lasted for fifty-eight years until Verlin's death in 2014.
During their marriage Violet and Verlin owned Lemaster Dairy Routes where Verlin was the milkman, making home delivery of dairy products and Violet did the monthly bookwork for fifty plus years. Verlin and Violet will also be remembered as the owners of the Casey's General Store franchise store on the corner of Highway 9 and the Mill Road which opened in 1977.
Violet also worked the night shift at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center for twenty-three years. She thoroughly enjoyed providing care to the many residents over those twenty-three years and she formed many lasting friendships with her co-workers. She often spoke fondly of both the residents and her friends.
Violet had a deep love for her children. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and laid a faith-filled foundation for her children that will last for generations. She also had a deep love for her extended family, a generous protective spirit, and an enduring delightful sense of humor which she was able to share until the very end. After Verlin's death, Violet moved to Apple Valley, Minnesota to be closer to all her children. She lived with her daughter Vonda and her family.
