A funeral service for Don Kahler will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota with Pastor Chad Duffy Officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Bancroft. Donald Herman Kahler was born on January 10, 1960, in Estherville, son of Albert and Mary (Kennedy) Kahler. He grew up in Ledyard where he was part of the last graduating class of Ledyard Community School in 1978. Growing up on the farm, he spent many hours helping his father. You could find him milking cows, chopping silage, walking beans and everything in between. Don was an extremely hard worker and spent the last 41 years at Winnebago Industries.
Don left an impression on everyone who had the privilege to meet him. You would always find him with a smile on his face and he could always make you laugh. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, taking his 4-wheeler out through creeks, and many other adventures outside. He looked forward to his camping trip in Dayton on Labor Day weekend with his daughters. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Don died peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at his home in Lakota at the age of 59.
He is survived by his daughters, Shaunna (Kevin) Maxwell of Des Moines, Courtney (Nathan) Exline of Des Moines, Kendall Kahler of Buffalo Center; his daughter's mother, Annette Kahler of Buffalo Center; his granddaughter, Stella Maxwell; his parents, Albert and Mary Kahler of Bancroft; siblings, Deb (Jerry) Homan of Fairmont, MN, Mike Kahler and special friend, Delta of Titonka, Tom Kahler of Bancroft, and Pat (Amy) Kahler of Lakota; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joey; his grandparents, Herman and Laura Kahler and Ed and Mary Kennedy; his children's grandfather, Dennis Tjelle; and his children's great-grandparents, Allen and Esther Porter.
