Vic and Jeanette met rollerskating in Algona in 1950. They were married on May 29, 1953, at United Methodist Church in Wesley, IA. They left for Colorado Springs after their wedding. Vic had joined the Army on January 15, 1953. He was a PFC in the 39th Scout Dog Platoon under the 8th Army Division. His duties included patrolling the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea with his German Shepard, Smokey. The best Christmas for Vic and Jeanette was December 24, 1954 when Vic was honorably discharged from the Army and came home from Hawaii. They attended a Scout Dog Platoon reunion every Labor Day weekend for 65 years.
Vic and Jeanette had 3 daughters: Vicki, Debbie, and Cindy. He farmed for 10 years and then did many other jobs: Ken Krause Auto, Bob Mitchell Farm Mechanics, Faber Road Construction, 7 years with ArtsWay Manufacturing and 31 years with Kossuth County. He did road maintenance and took pride in making his mowing the best. He was grateful for all the compliments over those many years.
Vic and Jeanette spent their fun time polka dancing, playing cards, camping at Dawson's Campground, and finally spending their winters in Arizona for twenty years. His dancing included three shirt changes to be fresh for each band set. Cards was much better when winning but he played until Friday night, September 6th. While playing with friends, the men finally won!
