Verla Joyce Beisch was born July 7, 1932, in Artesian, South Dakota, daughter of Orville and Theone (Flagle) Barber. As a young child, her family lived in Graettinger for a couple of years, moving to Whittemore where she graduated high school. Verla was married to Mervyn Beisch on October 18, 1951, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Whittemore.
Verla and Mervyn lived in Fort Dodge, moving to an acreage in Coalville in 1965. She worked as a waitress and candy maker at Constantine's, also Woolworth's, Uniform World, and finally Sears, retiring in 2004. She loved camping with her family, going river fishing and "picnics from the trunk". Verla was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, doing crafts and woodworking, gardening and canning and family gatherings. She was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge being active in the Ladies Aid.
Verla moved to Eastland Park Apartments in Algona in January of 2014, and in May of 2016 became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Verla died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 86.
She is survived by three children, Roxann Beisch of Wayzata, MN, Randy (Crystal) Beisch of Lehigh, and Terry (Penny Sue) Beisch of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Tyler Beisch and Max Beisch of Paynesville, Amanda Beisch of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, and Logan (Andrea) Beisch of Sioux City. She is also survived by siblings, Russell (Darlene) Barber of Huntington, Norman Barber of Farnhamville, Marlis Moe of Algona, Geneva (DeWayne) Hill-Hovey of Titonka; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Johnson of Swea City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mervyn on July 22, 1995; sister, Sharon Johnson; sister-in-law, Loveda Barber; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Moe and Lloyd Hill.
