A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Lu Verne. Burial will be held in the Lu Verne Cemetery.
Eugene Harold Casey was born February 4, 1927 to Robert and Mary (Schmidt) Casey at Algona, Iowa. Eugene, better known as 'Gene', attended country school south of Algona and later near Lu Verne. He graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He grew up in the First Presbyterian Church but later joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Lu Verne. He recently became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
He married Kathryn Pergande on October 8, 1949. They loved to roller skate, square dance, bowl, and play cards. Gene and Kathryn farmed in the Lu Verne area all of their lives buying a farm in 1971.
Gene liked German Shepherd dogs, history, reading, farming, television, and spending time with family. A highlight in his later years was going on the Honor Flight on June 12, 2010, to Washington, D.C.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Jean (Tim) Wredt of Humboldt; son Larry (Beverly) Casey of Blue Springs, MO. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Pam Kacmarynski, Jennifer Simmons, Lori Strong, Andrea Wredt, and Kevin Casey; 10 great-grandchildren, Casey Simmons, Elizabeth Simmons, Wyatt Kacmarynski, Ana Kacmarynski, John Kacmarynski, Rose Wredt, Ryder Wredt, Dylan Strong, Logan Casey, Lawren Casey. Also surviving are brothers Clarence Casey and Marion Casey of Lu Verne.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Kathryn on November 25, 2013.
