On July 3, 1952, Harold was united in marriage to Dolores Welhousen at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage the couple lived in San Diego until Harold was honorably discharged and they moved back to Algona. Harold began farming and continued until retiring in 1991, although he never really quit farming.
Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially on their yearly fishing trip; hunting geese and pheasant, playing piano, traveling, woodworking and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of St. Cecelia Parish where he was one of the original 12 lay distributors of the Holy Eucharist, on the Finance Committee and on St. Cecelia's first School Board; member of the Knights of Columbus Council #952, was on the ASCS Committee, FHA Committee and past president of the Pikeside Electric Committee.
He is survived by his wife Dolores of Algona; son, Steve Bode and wife Sandy of Algona; daughters, Julie and husband LaMonte Gray of Adams, Minnesota; Bonnie and husband Benjamin Ihde of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Bode; Kelly, Paxton and Olivia Gray; Rachel and Lauren Ihde; step-grandchildren, Jason O'Donnell, Heather O'Donnell Curley; Andrew, Benjamin and Emily Gray; brother, Floyd Bode and wife Marjorie of Algona and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Herman, Pauline Coady, Evelyn Bickert, Calvin and Roland.
