May 17, 2016 was a special night for Oakcrest Funeral Services at the Iowa Funeral Directors Association (IFDA) awards dinner in Altoona, IA.
Oakcrest received the Award of Excellence in Funeral Service. The award recognizes a funeral home’s exemplary service to the community it serves. Oakcrest Funeral Services, which has been serving Algona and the surrounding communities for 93 years, was one of 17 funeral homes from throughout the state to receive the award. Oakcrest Funeral Services has received this award more frequently than any other funeral home in Iowa. It is the 26th year the funeral home has been recognized by peers for this achievement. To qualify, a funeral home must excel in four of five areas: presentation of public information, active membership in the state association, sponsorship of community events or services, professional development, and personal development. Each year, Karen Schaaf compiles a scrapbook documenting our achievements in these key areas and it’s displayed with the other award winners. We enjoy taking a few moments to look back on the year and all that we’ve been fortunate to accomplish.
Mike Schaaf was also honored this night as he received his 50 year pin, commemorating 50 years as a licensed funeral director. His son, Brian Schaaf presented him with the pin. Mike’s 4 children and other members of Oakcrest Funeral Services were there to help celebrate his accomplishment. Although Mike is retired, he continues to work as a funeral director at Oakcrest Funeral Services when needed. Congratulations, Mike!
